Why Liposuction is Not the Answer to Cottage Cheese Thighs
This is the time of year when a lot of people start thinking about how they look. We know summer is coming, and that means we’ll be spending a lot more time in bathing suits and shorts. When we know bathing suit season is just around the corner, we may begin to panic about problems like saddle-bags, love-handles, and the dreaded cellulite. To address these concerns, it makes sense to think about liposuction. At the same time, this assumption about liposuction being the answer you need could be wrong.
What makes cellulite so stubborn?
All fat can seem more stubborn than a two-year-old with a strong dislike of naps. Cellulite is even worse than the average fat that hangs around the hips, thighs, and stomach. It’s not so much that cellulite is a particular kind of fat, it’s more about where it exists.
When we start to see ripples on the skin, it is because clumps of fatty deposits have developed just beneath the layer of connective tissue that runs perpendicular the skin. This creates somewhat of a basket-weave pattern (actually the pattern of connective tissue is different in men and women). Rippling indicates that fatty tissue is pushing up through the spaces in between the strong fibrous bands of connective tissue tethered to structure farther beneath the surface. It may seem as though this problem could be resolved by removing fat, but history has proven this theory wrong.
New Hope for Smoother Skin
Millions of people are interested in getting rid of cellulite. Methods of doing so have changed as often as fashion trends, it seems. We’ve tried creams, diet and exercise, and even fascia “blasting.” In our experience, what we have found to work wonders in the fight against cellulite is the innovative ThermiTight™ treatment.
ThermiTight™ is a radiofrequency treatment that has been widely used with outstanding results. The treatment surpasses other radiofrequency devices because a tiny probe that emits gentle energy is inserted beneath the skin.
During a ThermiTight™ treatment, the bands of tissue that create the dimpling effect of cellulite are mechanically cut and heat is applied to prevent the bands from forming. In addition, the deep layer of the skin is treated to create a skin tightening effect through new collagen formation and contraction that tightens superficial tissue for smooth skin.
Dr. Ong also combines other modalities to help treat this difficult problem such as liposuction, Sculptra® injections to fill in the cellulite dimples, as well as Skintyte® infrared skin tightening.
