Aging and sun exposure lead many people to frustrating problems with their skin. In addition to fine lines and wrinkles, the breakdown of healthy collagen can result in spots, rough texture, and enlarged pores. When seen in the mirror every day, these problems can feel insurmountable. When we look at them, we know just what to do. Many patients who have visited our Scottsdale office for skin rejuvenation get outstanding results from a MicroLaser Peel®. Here, we discuss details of this treatment that you may want to know.
What is a MicroLaser Peel?
The term MicroLaser Peel may sound like yet another form of laser skin resurfacing. Laser resurfacing has been performed for several years and can achieve profound results. One of the points that make the MicroLaser Peel stand out is its customizable features. The device can be adjusted to perform a light peel or one that is deeper, making the procedure suitable for all skin types and also a wide variety of dermatologic and cosmetic concerns.
The treatment process is precise, beginning with the brief cleansing of the skin. A topical numbing cream may be applied depending on the depth of treatment. If this step is performed, the anesthetic will sit on the skin for approximately half an hour. The cream is then wiped off and the eyes are covered with safety shields. A handpiece is guided over the skin, delivering customized energy to affect the outer layer of the skin. MicroLaser Peel treatment is more substantial than microdermabrasion and chemical peels but less ablative than the average laser skin resurfacing procedure.
Because laser energy is involved in this treatment, patients should expect slight redness and swelling after their procedure. The skin may feel sunburned. The intensity of these side effects relates to the depth of tissue targeted during the procedure. Four to seven days after the peel, the skin usually becomes dry and flaky and will slough off to reveal smoother, brighter, younger-looking skin.
What Could a MicroLaser Peel Do for You?
The MicroLaser Peel is commonly performed on the face but can also be used on the hands, neck, and chest. Because the system is adjustable and treatment is customized to skin type and preferences, it may be possible to achieve the desired outcome with just one session. Treating multiple layers of the skin, this peel can even out tone and texture, correct superficial pigmentation concerns like age spots and freckles, and reduce keratosis and scars.
