Should Celery Juice be on Your Daily Menu?

Just a few years ago, juicing was a trend that was of interest to relatively few people. As time has passed, we’ve become much more aware of the value of living well. Studies indicate that we are living longer, so why not preserve the actual life in our many years? If you’ve been considering ways to support your body throughout your aging process, juicing may be a practice that has come across your path. Juicing oranges and apples doesn’t sound like much of a stretch, but celery? Yes. Here’s why.

Thanks for four-time NY Times best-seller Anthony William, aka “Medical Medium,” there is a celery juice crazy sweeping the globe. Numerous celebrities, including Sylvester Stallone and Kim Kardashian, have jumped onto his bandwagon. Does that mean you’ll want to, as well? In our Scottsdale practice, we utilize proven functional medicine protocols to help our patients live their fullest lives. While we don’t get behind every trend to come about, celery juice does seem to offer specific benefits.

What Celery Juice Offers

When one drinks celery juice, they gain a healthy dose of powerful antioxidants as well as vitamins such as A, C, and K. A glass of celery juice also contains minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium. Each of these aids in maintaining a healthy pH level. Additionally, according to William, celery juice helps the body naturally destroy viruses and bacteria and flush pesticides and other toxins, all of which contribute to disease. Overall, William writes that celery juice can:

  • Reduce systemic inflammation
  • Cleanse toxicity
  • Inhibit bloating
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Lower cholesterol
  • Help manage acne, psoriasis, and eczema
  • Facilitate optimal digestion
  • Aid in weight loss
  • Support kidney and liver function
  • Reduce instances of constipation

To Juice or to Blend

Some people obtain vital nutrients in a daily smoothie. Can the same be done with celery? It’s possible, but may not be quite as simple as one would wish. Celery is very fibrous food. A juicer breaks down fruits and vegetables differently than a blender. When run through a juicer, celery is strained and fibers are captured in a basin that is separate from the juice itself. When blended, the celery mixture then needs to be strained manually through cheesecloth or another method.

Nutrient Testing for Optimal Support

Physical wellness involves the body’s processing of 31 vitamins, minerals, amino/fatty acids, antioxidants, and metabolites. Patients of our Scottsdale office can gain a clear understanding of how their body is utilizing these nutrients and where deficiency may have occurred. In-depth nutrient testing is ideal for patients who plan to undergo surgery as well as for those who want to promote longevity.
