Peptides

What are peptides?

Molecular model of Arginine, one of 20 required amino acid to form proteins.
Peptides are short chains of amino acids that are the building blocks of proteins. Amino acids are made up of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen, and they have many functions in the body. They give proteins their structure, transport nutrients, and initiate various functions at the cellular level. When amino acids link together, these chains are called peptides.

What are the benefits of peptides?

Peptides are important for your body because they stimulate the body’s natural healing and growth factors. The body contains over 3000 different types of peptides which play a roll in many functions of the body from producing collagen to regulating your metabolism to reducing inflammation. At Ong Institute we are able to utilize peptides to help increase a patient’s overall feeling of health though peptide therapy. Peptide therapy is a new and upcoming treatment which uses peptides to target specific areas to help increase overall wellness. At Ong Institute, we offer a variety of peptide therapies to our patients in Scottsdale, Phoenix, Chandler, and the surrounding areas. Call today to learn more and schedule a consultation.

Who is an ideal candidate for peptides?

Peptide injections have been used since the 1920s in the U.S. to boost athletic performance, assist in weight loss, and elevate libido. Today, peptides come from lots of natural sources, making them easier to deliver and improving their effectiveness.

Because peptides are so prevalent throughout the normal function of our bodies, they can be a great treatment for many people. Peptides help the body’s response after exercise, with weight loss, and are important for immune function. Both men and women can benefit from peptide therapy, particularly if you’re middle aged or an athlete.

Who is not an ideal candidate for peptide therapy?

Peptides are present in everyday foods and throughout the human body naturally. That’s why peptide supplements coming from natural sources are easily tolerated by our bodies.

But there are certain people who cannot have these treatments at Ong Institute. Any people with active medical conditions or active skin infections should not use peptides. Pregnant women and women who are breastfeeding are also not eligible for peptide therapy. Otherwise, there are very few restrictions on peptide therapy.

How effective is peptide therapy?

Because peptide therapy is treated as a supplement, it is not regulated by the FDA. Because of that, there isn’t much long-term research into the actual results generated or not generated by peptide therapy.

As with many treatments, results vary with different people. Plus, the patient’s commitment to other parts of these treatments, such as regular exercise, varies and this can impact results.

We feel the potential gains made in fighting off aging, overall wellness, skin quality, and recovery after exercise, coupled with the low risk of any type of side effects, make peptide therapy a great option for our patients from Scottsdale, Phoenix, Chandler, and the surrounding areas.

Can peptides be used for weight loss?

You’ve probably heard or seen promises of weight loss through peptide therapy. At Ong, that’s not an area we focus this therapy on. Yes, peptides help the body burn fat while working, eating, and even sleeping. But for weight loss, they must be combined with other lifestyle factors, such as exercise and managed calorie intakes to give a boost. We feel peptides are a great tool in the box to help with weight loss, but they are not a panacea.

Can peptide therapy be used for weight gain?

Peptides do aid in the development of lean muscle mass. This can increase weight, but more importantly, it increases strength and fitness.

What are the potential side effects of peptide therapy?

Some people think peptides are steroids, but this is not the case. Still, when people use peptides in the wrong way, they can cause side effects. These include:

  • Itchiness at injection sites
  • Increased water retention
  • Increased hunger
  • Dry mouth
  • Tingling or numbness
  • High blood pressure
  • Kidney pain
  • Joint pain
  • Darkening of moles
  • Increased freckles
  • Weight gain
  • Weight loss
  • Decreased fertility

Peptides are safe and easily tolerated by the body. And though the effects on the above list are possible, they typically come from misuse or uneducated usage of peptide supplements. At Ong Institute, our peptide therapies are intended for improved health and wellness, not for gaining crazy amounts of muscle or other unrealistic results.
