How to accelerate healing from labiaplasty surgery and elevate your results

Here are some of the most common concerns that we hear from women who are contemplating surgery of their intimate areas:-

  1. Fear of the loss of sensation
  2. Inability to visualize their actual results
  3. Unknowns regarding the healing process after surgery
  4. Fear of itching, pain, and discomfort in a highly sensitive area
  5. Infection risks after surgery

True facts about labiaplasty healing

Everyone heals a little differently, but here are some general facts about the healing process that we can share:-

  1. The more areas being surgical treated, the more surgical “trauma” there are to the tissues resulting in longer healing times
  2. We all heal differently based on our current state of health
  3. The surgical technique used can have a direct influence on healing
  4. We can influence the healing from surgery using various therapies

At the Ong Institute, we understand that the healing process is one of the most important reasons why women choose not to pursue surgery.

Since the healing experience is such an important factor in the decision making process, we emphasize our efforts to optimize the way you heal after surgery.

The Ong Institute approach to healing

In addition to making sure you are a good candidate for surgery and the “standard” post-surgical labiaplasty instructions such as icing, use of numbing creams and oral medications, there are several things that we do that can elevate your surgical healing.

To heal optimally, your body requires nutrients, (oxygen being the most important), enhanced blood flow,  adequate minerals, collagen and vitamins to initiate the healing process.

In addition, in order to prevent an abnormal healing response, it is also important to turn off the inflammation at the right time, so that the tissue returns to its normal state. This will reduce swelling and pain and prevent abnormal scarring.

Before Surgery

  1. Prior to surgery, we pre-treat the vaginal tissues with ozone suppositories to enhance oxygen delivery to the tissue and reduce your  risks of infection by killing any yeast or bacteria that might live in your vagina.  We may also recommend the use of Probiotics.
  2. Prior to surgery we optimize your healing with peptides to start directing your body to heal. What are peptides?

During surgery

  1. We utilize the Ellman RF tool to perform the surgery. This tool allows for precise surgery, control of bleeding, and allows Dr. Ong to shape and sculpt the tissues intricately. This tool also produces less trauma to the tissues allowing for less swelling and faster healing.
  2. Long-acting numbing medicine is used during surgery to give up to 72 hour of anesthesia to the surgical site.
  3. 95% of our procedures are done in the office using local anesthetic, oral sedate and nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to reduce the possible risks of nausea, vomiting and other possible side effects with general anesthetic.

After Surgery

  1. After surgery is completed, we oxygenate the surgical site to initiate oxygen delivery to the tissues.
  2. We utilize the power of peptide creams, and oxygenated oils to accelerate healing after surgery.
  3. We enhance the healing process with the use of a customized post-surgical healing supplement containing 14 key nutrients including collagen, anti-oxidants  vitamins and minerals that directly influence the histamine and healing response of the tissue.
  4. We directly influence the healing process with injectible peptides.

Other concerns

Infection

True surgical infection is very rare. We will prescribed an antibiotic if outer labia surgery (majoraplasty) is being performed since there is a slightly higher risk in these procedure. Most “infections” after labiaplasty surgery are due to yeast and bacterial vaginosis (BV) infections. The overall risk is quite low, in our experience, less than 10%.  With our pre-treatments, the frequency of these infections can be reduced. We will also pre-treat women with frequent yeast infections with anti-fungals and probiotics prior to surgery.

Loss of sensation

The loss of sensation to the clitoris and changes to orgasms are quite rare during labiaplasty surgery, done in experienced hands. The nerves to the clitoral body actually comes off deep and central. Very rarely, there may be some anatomical variants of the superficial nerves near the hood when performing a clitoral hood reduction, but labiaplasty (minoraplasty) itself is generally safe. There may be loss of sensation to the skin and incisions of the outer labia, if a majoraplasty is done since the sensory nerves to the skin itself may be affected.

Inability to visualize results

The surgical planning process is one of the most important steps during labiaplasty surgery. During your planning appointment, Dr Ong will create your surgical plan with your goals and desires in mind. The plan is done in collaboration with you. Since the final results are what matters most, this is a very important step in our process and will reduce your anxiety prior to surgery.

The surgical healing process should be part and parcel of your surgical experience. The artistry of surgery, combined with a directed post-surgical healing protocol, in our opinion, is the winning combination to our success in these procedures.
